Areas of Expertise
Syl is a multi-talented project manager, writer, video, television and theatrical event specialist. Over the past 30 years, Syl has created hundreds of print and video programs that have invigorated both internal and external corporate communication efforts. He is also a working journalist with the StarTribune newspaper in the Twin Cities and produces television and film projects for non-profit and for-profit companies. His primary skill set is working with executives to create precisely calibrated, broad-range communication initiatives that are tightly aligned with business priorities.
Corporate Experience
Before becoming a communications consultant, Syl was VP, The Consulting Group, at the Human Resources Network in Philadelphia, where he developed sophisticated public affairs measurement programs such as key leader surveys and community needs assessments for major clients on the east and west coast. He managed internal communications for Medtronic, Inc., and General Mills, Inc., where he leveraged his print media and video experience to create a multi-dimensional communications platform. At Control Data and Wyeth (now Pfizer), he wrote speeches for C-suite executives and managed key transformation projects on behalf of senior internal human resource and corporate communication clients. As a consultant, he developed and managed a $1M+, 5-year global diversity initiative for Medtronic that included a theatrical presentation and mandatory training for all employees. He has also led large-scale transformational projects for HealthPartners HMO, Kerr-McGee and Burger King. His award-winning video, film and theatrical presentations have educated and entertained employee audiences across the nation and around the world.
Industry Involvement
Syl is active in promoting equity and excellence in education initiatives designed to close the achievement gap in Minnesota. He is a public speaker and an editorial writer who creates provocative print and radio commentaries that illuminate social problems in today’s world. Syl also works with organizations such as the Academy on Violence and Abuse to help bring an end to bullying, battering and all other forms of child abuse.
